Event Details

In the ‘50s millions of Americans moved into brand new Ranch houses in suburban tracts.  Continuing the cultural affection for cowboys and the Old West, the Ranch House offered a Home on the Range for anyone who wanted it, complete with shingled roofs, board and batten siding, and Dutch doors.  With innovations like family rooms, patios and sliding glass doors, they offered the latest in modern living. Architect and History Scholar Alan Hess will talk about this and other ‘50s design elements along with a panel of experts including District 2 Councilmember Suja Lowenthal.
